FAQ
Common questions.
Everything you'd want to know before installing, contributing, or building with our tools.
Yes. Every product we build is released under the MIT license. No premium tiers, no feature gates, no subscription. If you can find it on our site or GitHub, it's free to use, modify, and redistribute. We're funded by our own stores and freelance work — not by charging for our open-source tools.
We're a small team of developers based in Australia. We run WooCommerce stores ourselves, which is why we understand the problems we're solving. You can find us on GitHub under the MerlinStacks account.
Download the latest release zip from the plugin's GitHub page. Then go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin in your WordPress admin. Select the zip file, click "Install Now", then activate. Most plugins have a settings page that appears after activation.
For WordPress plugins like Overcustomise and Reel It — no. They install like any other plugin and work through the WordPress admin. For OverSeek (the dashboard app), you'll need basic comfort with cloning a repo and running a setup script. We document every step.
Absolutely. The MIT license allows you to use our tools in personal, commercial, and client projects without restriction. You don't need to attribute us, though we appreciate it. You can even modify the code and redistribute it under your own terms.
Yes, that's the whole point. Fork any repository, make whatever changes you need, and use it however you want. If your improvements are useful, submit a pull request and we'll consider merging them upstream.
No. Support is community-driven through GitHub Issues. We respond to issues personally, but there's no SLA or guaranteed response time. For priority help, consider hiring a developer from the community or posting in the discussions tab of a repository.
Open an issue on the relevant GitHub repository. Include steps to reproduce, your WordPress and WooCommerce versions, and any relevant error messages. We triage issues weekly and prioritize based on impact and severity.
Fork a repository on GitHub, make your changes, and submit a pull request. We review all PRs. You can also contribute by filing detailed bug reports, suggesting features, or improving documentation. Every repository has a contributing guide in the README.
It varies by project. WordPress plugins are PHP/JavaScript following WordPress coding standards. OverSeek is built with TypeScript and a modern frontend framework. Overseek Socials uses FastAPI on the backend. See our Tech Stack page for details on each project.
We track planned features as GitHub Issues with the "enhancement" label. Our roadmap is public and community-driven — features get prioritized based on community votes and our own needs. Check the issues tab on any repository to see what's planned.
We use these tools ourselves, so yes — we have a direct incentive to keep them working. That said, because everything is open source, the community can fork and maintain any project if we ever step back. We'd be surprised if that ever happens, but the option exists.
